Oregon is expected to produce 50 million pounds of blueberries this year, with about half of it going to the fresh market, said Bryan Ostlund, executive director for the Oregon Blueberry Commission, Salem.

The blueberry industry continues to grow in production and demand, especially with the emphasis on more healthful school lunches and a wider concern about obesity levels.

“It’s a very dynamic industry,” Ostlund said. “It’s about health and being aware of what you’re eating.”
