Dynamic Systems Inc., Redmond, Wash., provided a customized installation of a SIMBA Produce Traceability Solution for the Lyons, Ga., onion grower earlier this year, according to a news release.
SIMBA, which stands for Specialized Inventory Management with Barcode Accuracy, generates labels that meet the requirements of the Produce Traceability Initiative.
The system also collects and reports data from the packing line and allows for forward traceability all the way to the retailer, according to the release.
Rusty McLain, packing operations manager and second-generation Vidalia onion grower, said SIMBA also helps with inventory.
“I’ve used different systems in the past, and managing inventory and traceability have never been as easy as with SIMBA,” McLain said in the release.
Dynamic Systems customized the system for McLain Farms to allow for the operation of three label printers from one touch screen.
The grower-packer can also configure SIMBA to track by pallet, lot or case, according to the release.
