NOGALES, Ariz. — Al Harrison Co. Distributors is starting the winter season with a new partner and an expanded product line, said president Brent Harrison.

TJ Bauer, most recently with the Nogales location of Raleigh, N.C.-based L&M Cos. Inc., now is a partner at Al Harrison Co. and serves as vice president.

“We’re very excited to have (Bauer),” Harrison says. “He brings a lot of knowledge and expertise.”

The company has expanded its product line, which previously consisted primarily of watermelons, honeydews and hard-shell squash, adding cucumbers, green and colored bell peppers, zucchini, roma tomatoes and organic bell peppers.

“This will really increase our volume,” Harrison said.

The expanded line could add 2 million to 3 million packages to the firm’s annual volume and double its sales, he said.

The 54-year-old company expects to do a lot of contract business and expand its customer base and sales territory, Harrison said.

To accommodate the additional produce, the firm is adding cooling units, modifying its buildings and increasing its sales staff.

The company has created a new business plan that will include a domestic program as well as imports and will “keep everybody busy year-round,” Harrison said.
