(March 17, 9:30 a.m.) Dawn Wells — Mary Ann on “Gilligan’s Island” and spokeswoman for the Idaho Potato Commission — is serving six months probation after being found with marijuana in her vehicle.

Wells is the founder of Spud Fest, Idaho’s family film and television festival, attended the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit 2004 in Anaheim, Calif., on behalf of the commission, and participated in its iTuber online video promotion in 2007.

The commission declined to comment until Wells released a statement, said Frank Muir, the commission’s chief executive officer.

She was sentenced Feb. 29 to five days in jail and put on probation after pleading guilty to one count of reckless driving for an Oct. 18 incident in Driggs, Idaho. She was pulled over for swerving and accelerating and slowing down, according to The Associated Press. Wells failed a sobriety test and an officer found half-smoked marijuana cigarette and two cases used to store marijuana in her car, the story said.

Wells said she gave a ride to three hitchhikers who she let go when they began smoking something and was swerving because she was looking for heater controls in her new car, The AP reported.
