(Jan. 3) Construction is under way on a 2.1 million square-foot corporate headquarters and distribution center that will serve Stater Bros. Markets locations throughout Southern California.

Being built on a 162-acre site in San Bernardino, the facility, with walls 45 feet high, will have 9 million cubic feet of storage space, the Highland Community News reported.

Construction is expected to be completed in about a year, and at that time, the company will close 11 distribution buildings in seven neighboring locations, the paper said.

Stater Bros. will reportedly relocate some 2,000 employees to the new operations.
