(May 1) Michael Nomoto has joined Sunkist Global LLC as managing director, filling a role that had been vacant since Mark Tompkins was named director of domestic sales for Sunkist Growers Inc. late last year.

Nomoto spent the past 16 years with Santa Fe Springs, Calif.-based Nishimoto Trading. He most recently served as export manager, sourcing U.S. produce for the Chinese and Japanese markets.

At Sunkist, Nomoto will shift from exports to imports, dealing with growers in South Africa, Australia and Mexico for customers in North America and Asia.

Sunkist president-elect Russ Hanlin said in a news release that Nomoto also will be responsible for developing relationships with growers in other citrus-producing regions.

Sunkist Global’s volume complements product Sunkist Growers produce in California and Arizona.

“We are building strategic relationships with suppliers in other citrus producing countries, such as South Africa, who can provide consistent supplies of counter-seasonal fruit that allow us to offer our large international customers the year-round citrus supply they demand,” Hanlin said.

Nomoto, who started April 21, is based in the company’s Sherman Oaks, Calif., headquarters.

“I’m very pleased to be joining the Sunkist sales team,” Nomoto said in the news release. “Sunkist’s expanding global footprint is adding even more value to the famous Sunkist brand and I’m proud to be able to play a part in that growth.”
