He replaces Tom Roberts who retired as director of sales and marketing after 38 years with Suntreat, the company said in a news release.

Suntreat hires Al Imbimbo to replace Tom Roberts

Imbimbo is a veteran of the California citrus industry. He comes to Suntreat after five years with Sunkist Growers Inc., Sherman Oaks, where he was most recently director of sales for the company’s citrus juice and oils division. Before that, he was director of sales for national accounts. Earlier in his career, Imbimbo spent 11 years as director of sales for Paramount Citrus Association, Delano, Calif.

“This is an unbelievable opportunity to have someone of Al’s knowledge, proven track record and vision join our team,” Mike George, general manager of Suntreat, said in the release. “We are hoping to usher in a new era for everyone associated with Suntreat.”

The company is planning an aggressive growth strategy emphasizing the introduction of new varieties and enhanced specialty citrus product offerings, the release said.

Imbimbo’s new position marks his second tour of duty with Suntreat. When he was a teenager, Imbimbo worked in Suntreat’s packinghouse.

“Suntreat has been a cornerstone in the California citrus deal for fifty years and is in a great position to continue its successful history of growth and expansion,” Imbimbo said in the release.

Imbimbo, a native of the San Joaquin Valley and a graduate of California State University-Fresno, also is a graduate of the United Fresh Produce Industry Leadership Program.

In addition to the packinghouse, Suntreat farms 7,000 acres of citrus and maintains a citrus nursery, the release said.
