(July 18) A Southern and Central California supermarket strike appears to have been averted as grocery chain representatives and union negotiators reached a tentative agreement Tuesday on a new, four-year contract, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Workers will likely vote on the agreement between members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union and the Albertsons, Ralphs and Vons chains Sunday.

Contract details were not released, but the pact will reportedly include a sizable wage increase and improvements in workers’ health plan benefits.
