A Chicago foodservice distributor has installed a wind turbine at its new environmentally-friendly distribution center.

Testa Produce installs wind turbine

Testa Produce Inc. installed a 750-kilowatt turbine at its center in the Chicago Stockyards Industrial Park May 7, according to a company news release.

The turbine is expected to generate 950,000 to 1 million kilowatt hours of energy annually, enough to supply 35% to 40% of the 91,000 square-foot facility’s needs.

Testa’s new facility, which officially opens May 10, also features a vegetated roof, solar panels and a rainwater reclamation system.
