(Aug. 7, 3:26 p.m.) The United Fresh Produce Association is joining the American Meat Institute and the Food Marketing Institute for three joint workshops on country of origin labeling.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture issued the country of origin labeling regulations in July, and they are scheduled to take effect Sept. 30.

The new regulations require suppliers and retailers to work together to provide the country of origin information for a wide variety of products including fresh and frozen produce, as well as fresh and frozen meat.

To help retailers and suppliers understand the new regulations, the groups have scheduled three joint workshops to explain compliance issues, according to a news release.

The workshops are set for Aug. 12 in Baltimore, Aug. 13 in Chicago, and August 14 in San Jose, Calif.
