LAS VEGAS - Chiquita's Pineapple Bites were a big hit at the 2009 United Fresh Expo in Las Vegas.
Chiquita's new pineapple product won the award for best new fruit or vegetable product in the inaugural United Fresh New Product Award competition, announced April 24 by the United Fresh Produce Association's vice president of convention and industry relations John Toner.
Chiquita was one of five winners in the competition, which also recognized best new packaging, best new processing equipment and best food safety tool.
Other winners and their categories are:
- PakSense, Boise, Idaho, best food safety tool/service, for its Ultra Wireless Label;
- Best Sorting, Belgium, best packaging equipment, for its Genius Optical Sorter;
- Charlie's Machine & Supply, Boulder, Colo., best processing equipment, for its broccoli floret machine; and
- West Coast Supplies, Rancho Cordova, Calif., best new packaging, for its Air-O-Films Ventilated Pallet Wrap.
All United Fresh exhibitors were eligible to submit products, and each product was viewed and voted on by attendees at the three-day show, according to a news release.
"These companies have been recognized by their peers for their accomplishment and innovation," Toner said in the release.
