The U.S. Department of Agriculture set a July 1 deadline for nominations for members of the Fruit and Vegetable Advisory Committee.

The United Fresh Produce Association, Washington, D.C., plans to submit a list of nominations to serve on the next committee, which consists of up to 25 industry members.

Committee members serve two-year terms and provide direct input to the USDA and the Secretary of Agriculture on fruit and vegetable issues.

Members represent growers, shippers, wholesalers, brokers, retailers, processors, fresh-cut processors, foodservice suppliers, state agencies involved in organic and non-organic fruits and vegetables at local, regional and national levels, state departments of agriculture and trade associations, according to a United Fresh news release.

United Fresh president Tom Stenzel served on the first committee, established by Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman in 2001.
