(June 27, 2:45 p.m.) There is no longer a pending change of leadership at Bakersfield, Calif.-based Sun World International LLC. Allen Vangelos, who accepted a temporary assignment as the company’s president and chief executive officer five months ago, has agreed to stay in the position.

“I really feel that I can help move this company back to becoming a great company,” Vangelos said. “I really believe this company has great potential to reposition itself,”

Vangelos, a member of Sun World’s board of managers since October 2006, said much of his optimism is due to the company’s owner, Black Diamond Capital Management LLC, Lake Forest, Ill.

“Black Diamond is supporting us, we’re financially solid, and we don’t have any problems,” Vangelos said. “We need now to make the company a high energy, dynamic company.”

Vangelos is not new to front office management. He has been chairman of BC Hot House Foods Inc., Surrey, British Columbia, and a principal in Novelle Consulting LLC, Laguna Beach, Calif. Earlier in his career, he was president and chief operating officer of Calavo Growers Inc., Santa Paula, Calif.

Vangelos said his staying on at Sun World will provide continuity.

Since he took the top post at Sun World on Jan. 18, Vangelos said he has opened lines of communication and empowered people to make decisions. All of the changes he hopes to achieve will not happen overnight, he said. However, Sun World is a company that listens and responds to people now, he said.

A national search conducted by the company’s board of managers for a successor to Vangelos produced five candidates, none of whom fit the owner’s needs, he said.
