(Jan. 7) The Dallas Cowboys are heading to the National Football League playoffs, and Wholly Guacamole — a team sponsor — plans to tout the Cowboys’ season at the retail level.

Wholly Guacamole, a division of Fort Worth, Texas-based Fresherized Foods, is offering a limited-edition Dallas Cowboys package for its 7-ounce classic guacamole, available at numerous retailers throughout Texas — except Houston, home of the NFL’s Texans — and Oklahoma, said Tara Murray, marketing manager for Wholly Guacamole, which was introduced this fall.

More than 200,000 boxes have been manufactured, and the promotion, which started Dec. 10, is scheduled to continue through January, Murray said.

However, if the Cowboys make it to the Super Bowl, Wholly Guacamole — with the Cowboys’ permission — expects to take the promotion nationwide through late February, likely doubling the amount of special packages distributed, Murray said.

“Being a local company, here in Fort Worth, we’re really excited to sponsor the Cowboys — it’s one of the best seasons the Cowboys have had,” Murray said of the 13-3 season. “And we’re hoping to increase the brand awareness and preference (of Wholly Guacamole), and get the product in the consumer’s mouth.”

Wholly Guacamole has even gone beyond retail and taken the promotion inside the home of the Cowboys, Texas Stadium, Murray said.

The Cowboys have homefield advantage during the playoffs, and at the first game on Jan. 12 or 13, Wholly Guacamole’s GuacMobile will be on site, and free guacamole-laden hotdogs will be given away. The GuacMobile first made in appearance at the Dec. 16 game, she said.
