When it comes to California’s Inland Empire, one retailer stands out.
Sure, there are national chain stores dotted here and there in San Bernardino and Riverside counties, but it seems like everywhere you go, you see a Stater Bros. store.
And for the past 13 years, the man at the helm of the Stater Bros. produce division has been quietly excelling.
In fact, when I sent out the call for nominations for our annual honor with a list of names of retailers recognized in the past, it seemed like the industry saw a glaring omission. More than half of the record number of nominations I received were for our honoree.
The nominations spoke of Roger Schroeder’s innovative merchandising, willingness to work with vendors on new programs and, most of all, his kindness.
I hope you enjoy our tour of Stater Bros.’ newest store in Grand Terrace and a candid Q&A for our October cover story you can read here. After seeing this store and taking the time to talk shop, I can see why so many people sent in nominations for Roger.
That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a tough decision, though. I had a dozen other strong candidates and appreciate all who participated this year.
