The company’s farm expanded into another 150 acres this season, totaling about 650 acres, said Harry Singh Jr., founder, who has been growing in the area since the 1960s.
The company’s vine ripe beefsteak and roma tomatoes are all grown using the pole method, which Singh says offers protection for the fruit and a nicer end product.
“It’s a method of making a better quality tomato, with more production, giving the customer more of what they like,” he said.
The Oppenheimer Group, Vancouver, British Columbia, markets West Coast’s crop under the Oceanside Pole brand.
Singh’s father, Harry Singh Sr., moved to California in 1939 and started farming after World War II. Singh Jr. joined the business in 1968, growing a range of produce items, primarily focused on tomatoes.
