The year-round campaign designed to unite and motivate the fresh produce industry, according to a news release, has the goal of generating 1 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables for Feeding America in 2015. The umbrella organization has 200 member food banks that serve 60,000 food pantries and 46 million people.
Feeding America’s strategic plan through 2018 includes a goal of increasing the amount of fresh produce it distributes, according to the release.
Assisting McDill Associates of the launch of the campaign at Fresh Summit:
- Duda Farm Fresh Foods;
- SCS Global;
- RPE Inc.;
- Coastline Family Farms;
- California Giant Berry Farms; and
- Frieda’s Specialty Produce.
“Part of this great responsibility includes increasing awareness of both the cause and the campaign,” according to the release. “As part of the promotion, a giant shopping cart will be rolling around the Anaheim Convention Center branded with large dimensional cutouts of the sponsors’ products.”
A photo opportunity with the giant cart is set for 4 p.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 17 in front of the Clarion Hotel, 616 W. Convention Way. The cart will be at the finish line of the Tour de Fresh on Oct. 16.
