The contest ran on the rodeo’s Facebook page June 16-30. Fans left comments in a photo album there.
Arti drew 56% of the total votes and was declared the winner July 1 in a trophy presentation at Ocean Mist headquarters in Castroville, Calif.
“We are thrilled to see Arti voted as the fan’s favorite,” Kori Tuggle, director of marketing and business development, said in a news release. “We know his fans are passionate about the California state vegetable he represents in his friendly way. This is a great way to extend our company’s 90th anniversary celebration.”
Tuggle credited Ocean Mist employees, the company’s Artichoke Club members and Arti’s Facebook page fans for voting for Arti during the contest.
The race at the California Rodeo Salinas is set for 6:30 p.m. July 18. The field is expected to include 11 mascots, who will raise money for Ag Against Hunger through donations from grower-shippers and others.
