I’ve seen a lot of kits in the value-added sections at retailers, most of which involve soup, fajitas or stuffed mushrooms. This roasted salsa kit from San Antonio-based H.E. Butt Co. is something I’d not seen before. At $5.98 for the tomato version, it seemed a little pricey for something I could have done myself at home, but I didn’t think of it on my own so that’s a win in my book.
Logistically, it was very easy to do to – just coat with oil and toss on the grill until charred. Once that was done, you put the vegetables in the food processor with some salsa seasonings and you’re ready to go. It was a great balance of flavors, but I had some quality control problems with the cilantro in the packaging. Keep a beverage handy because this stuff is spicy!
