Calvin Arnold, director of the Agricultural Research Service Research Center in Fort Pierce, Fla., has been named director of the Southwest Florida Research and Education Center in Immokalee.
He will begin the position April 1, according to a University of Florida Extension email.
Phil Stansly had been the interim center director since Nov. 1, 2013.
Before that, Jackie Burns, who was director of the Citrus Research and Education Center in Lake Alfred, also began serving as director of Immokalee Aug. 1, 2012.
Arnold is no newcomer to the Immokalee center, having served as director there.
He also has served as director of the North Florida Research and Education Center in Monticello and the Indian River Research and Education Center in Fort Pierce.
Arnold earned bachelor's and master's degrees in horticultural science from the University of Florida and a doctorate in horticulture from Michigan State University.
