Philadelphia-based FMC Corp. plans to buy Lemvig, Denmark-based Cheminova for $1.8 billion.

The deal is expected to close in early 2015, according to a news release. It is expected to expand FMC's European customer base and broaden its offerings to include cereal crops.

FMC also plans to sell its alkali chemicals division.

This is not the first chemical company acquisition this year. Platform Specialty Products Corp. purchased Chemtura Corp. for about $1 billion earlier this year.
