Boise, Idaho-based Nunhems plans to introduce a new pollenizer watermelon variety that also has attractive fresh-market attributes.
Nunhems is expectetd to unveil the "Premium" dual-use variety at the National Watermelon Association convention, Feb. 19-23, in Savannah, Ga., according to a news release.
The F1 hybrid has smaller edible micro-seeds, is flavorful and has excellent shipability, according to the release.
It has thin, dark stripes, intense red colored flesh, thin rind and is considered early maturing, producing 5- to 7-pound fruit.
Premium already is grown in Europe as both a pollenizer and as a main crop for fresh market.
