The potato malady goes by several names—internal brown spot, physiological internal necrosis, internal browning, internal brown fleck and chocolate spot.

Regardless of the moniker, internal heat necrosis is an economically significant problem, particularly in the mid-Atlantic and South.

To help growers manage it, the Plant Management Network's Focus on Potato has launched a free educational webinar, according to a news release.

Craig Yencho, a North Carolina State University horticulture professor, covers internal heat necrosis symptoms and control.

He also highlights the crop stages with the highest risk, predictive models, varietal resistance and current research to develop resistant varieties.

The presentation will run through June 30.

Other recent webcasts also can be viewed at Focus on Potato.

The non-profit Plant Management Network is a joint effort of the American Society of Agronomy, American Phytopathological Society, and Crop Science Society of America.
