Idaho Falls, Idaho-based SunRain Varieties LLC has completed capital improvement projects that will allow it to expand mini tuber production by nearly 40%.

Two additional greenhouses were added to the existing four at its Idaho Falls complex, according to a news release. A 2.5-million-pound storage unit also was built.

Other improvements include additional office space and on-site testing equipment.

In addition, an irrigation system was installed at the 140-acre on-site test farm.

The Idaho Falls facility is the flagship of SunRain’s nationwide trial program that spans 12 states.

Mini tubers, about the diameter of a nickel, are propagated under highly controlled hygienic conditions using tissue culture techniques.

The end result is virus-free seed stock that allows certified seed potato crops to get off to a healthier start.

SunRain plans to have a new product showcase and open house at its Idaho Falls facility Aug. 13.
