A California-based environmental group has filed a lawsuit seeking to stop pumps that channel millions of gallons of water annually from Northern California across the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta to Southern California.

In addition, the suit, filed by the California Water Impact Network, wants to stop farmers from cultivating hundreds of thousands of acres on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley. The group says continuing to cultivate the toxin-laden farmland is an unreasonable use of public resources.
