Opponents of a law that gives cooperatives certain exemptions from antitrust laws are turning up the heat with recent lawsuits.
This latest round of scrutiny of the Capper-Volstead Act is nothing new. Challanges date back to the 1950s. But this go-round has increased intensity, antitrust experts say.
The most recent suits involve Brigiotta's Farmland Produce and Garden Center Inc. of Jamestown, N.Y., which is challenging a host of defendants, including the United Potato Growers of America.
