Apple growers started the New Year off right by having fewer apples in holdings than at teh same time a year ago, according to the Vienna, Va.-based U.S. Apple Association.


On Jan. 1, 81.5 million bushels remained in storage compared with 90.3 million on Jan. 1, 2009. That's a decrease of 10 percent.
