The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas is planning to repeat a well-received food safety exercise at this year’s Spring Policy Summit.

The Tabletop Food Safety Exercise, an exercise designed to provide better understanding of the procedures the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention follows to investigate possible food contaminations, was a popular feature at last year’s summit.

“It is part of our mission to provide expertise to help the industry members succeed, therefore when it comes to food safety regulations and new requirements we want to stay proactive and lead in knowledge,” said Lance Jungmeyer, FPAA president, in a news release.

The interactive session guides participants through the steps to make their company and partners compliant with the Foreign Supplier Verification Program, part of the Food Safety Modernization Act. Domenic Veneziano, former director of import operations for FDA, now president of Venezaiano Consulting, will moderate the activity.

“We are excited to bring speakers like Veneziano to work with us closely and in this interactive manner,” said Jungmeyer in the release.

The two-day summit, which will also cover other safety topics, U.S. trade, customs innovations and more, is scheduled for Feb. 28 to March 1 in Tubac, Ariz.
