A major papaya supplier of HLB Specialties is now Fairtrade-certified.

Brazilian grower-shipper Caliman Agricola, the main golden papaya supplier of Pompano Beach, Fla.-based HLB, has been certified by FLO-Cert, Fairtrade’s inspection and certification body, according to an HLB news release.

“Being in compliance with Fairtrade standards and FLO-Cert certification requirements is an important step toward ensuring our customers that we are serious about providing them with healthy products that were produced fair and ethically,” Melissa Hartmann de Barros, HLB’s director of communications, said in the release.

In addition to its Pompano Beach headquarters, HLB distributes papayas, mangoes, avocados, limes and other tropical fruits from facilities in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and McAllen, Texas, and seasonally out of New Jersey.

HLB’s sister company, HLB Tropical Food in Germany, distributes to several European countries.
