SAN ANTONIO — Introduced to Viva Fresh Produce Expo attendees as the “Kale Avenger,” Drew Ramsey has the street cred to back up the title.
He co-founded National Kale Day (Oct. 3 this year), wrote “50 Shades of Kale,” and sings the praises of the nutrients it packs in its leaves.
Ramsey, a medical doctor and psychiatrist, spoke at Viva Fresh on the importance of healthful eating to mental health, a connection explored in his newest book, out this month: “Eat Complete: The 21 Nutrients that Fuel Brain Power, Boost Weight Loss, and Transform Your Health.”
Ramsey received the Viva Fresh Healthy Living Award from the Texas International Produce Association, given to individuals that “empower the produce industry and its members to take an active role and in promoting healthy lifestyles with fresh fruits and vegetables,” according to the association.
The award, sponsored by The Packer, was given to Ramsey by Retail Editor Pamela Riemenschneider following his keynote speech April 2.
