Natural Delights, Bard Valley, Calif., is sponsoring cyclists Jennifer Gerard and Michael Deusebio in the annual Tour de Fresh event.
In October Gerard, director of nutrition of Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, and Deusebio, senior director of C&S Wholesale Grocers, plan to cycle 300 miles from N.C. to Atlanta on behalf of Natural Delights.
“I love being a part of such a grassroots event like Tour de Fresh because it gives produce industry professionals the opportunity to join together to influence positive change,” Deusebio, an amateur racer for more than 25 years who is riding in support of Martinez Unified School District, said in a news release.
The event raises money to donate salad bars to schools through the “Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools” campaign.
“I’m passionate about providing healthier options for our students, so this event is giving me the opportunity to affect the lives of thousands of students in California,” Gerard said in the release and will ride in support of Upland Unified School District.
Both Gerard and Deusebio plan to raise $10,000 with the goal of placing at least one salad bar in each district.
According to the release, Natural Delights has supported Tour de Fresh since its 2013 kickoff.
