June 1 potato stocks in the major potato production states totaled 55.5 million hundredweight, up 8% compared with a year ago.
 
The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that potatoes in storage in the top 13 potato-growing states on June 1 totaled 14% of the fall storage states’ 2016 production, which was 1% more than at the same time a year ago.
 
Potato disappearance was up 1% from a year ago and season-to-date shrink and loss was 9% greater than a year ago, according to the USDA.
 
Idaho potato stocks made up 38% of total remaining potatoes from the 2016 harvest, followed by Washington with 23% and 10% for Wisconsin, according to the report.
