BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Elgin, Minn.-based Honeybear Brands is showcasing its apple variety Pazazz in store demonstrations across the country.
Don Roper, vice president of sales and marketing at Honeybear, spoke about the apple Jan. 13 at a Hy-Vee store in Blue Springs, Mo. Pazazz, currently on ad for the chain, was featured in an extensive display near the front doors.
The apple is exclusive to Hy-Vee in all its markets except Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn. Publix, Wegmans, Loblaws, Kroger, and Central Markets are among other retailers carrying Pazazz.
The apples will be available in January and February this year, but with volume for 2018 expected to be four to five times greater, the market window next year will expand to December through April.
So far the Pazazz has gotten a positive reaction from customers, Roper said.
“We’ve had great response,” Roper said. “We’ve been doing great demos. Folks love the apple. This time of year it’s hard to find an apple that’s got great flavor, great crunch.
“Flavors typically tend to wane a little bit with the apples this time of year,” Roper said. “Pazazz comes on and it’s just got that intense burst of both sweet and tart.”
