Research that has linked a new species of Candidatus Liberibacter bacteria to zebra chip disease in potatoes could help growers better protect their crop.


Potato psylla also have been identified as the vector of the disease, which causes potatoes to discolor when fried.


Based on the new discovery, psyllid populations could be tested for the bacterium at known overwintering sites to give growers an early warning of possible infection.
