Although some wildlife species in the nation's "salad bowl" carry the virulent E. coli O157:H7 strain, it is a rare occurrence.


That's the preliminary finding of a team of researchers led by a University of California, Davis, scientist.


The team is examining fecal samples collected from wildlife found in California's Central Coast to determine whether they carry pathogens that could contaminate crops.
