Eight-time Tour de France rider Axel Merckx, owner/director of the Axeon Hagens Berman Cycling Team and Olympic bronze medalist, will be joining this year’s Tour de Fresh.

The cyclist will ride at least one of the three days to raise funds for the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools program, according to a news release.

Tour de Fresh has a goal of raising at least $156,000 and donating more than 50 salad bars to U.S. schools this year, according the release.

“Axel has been a huge asset to our cyclists as a mentor and we’re thrilled to have him this year,” said Anthony Gallino, vice president of sales for California Giant Berry Farms, in the release.

Event sponsor Locus Traxx will also provide tracking devices for each rider, which will allow people to see exactly where each rider is at any point throughout the event, according to the release.

“I’m honored and excited to be a part of this year’s Tour de Fresh,” said Merckx.
