By partnering Fort Worth’s FitWorth program, the Tour de Fresh Texas expects to place more salad bars in Fort Worth schools than originally planned.
Tour de Fresh, scheduled for the past three years in connection with an annual Produce Marketing Association trade show, makes its debut as a local event in Fort Worth. Originally scheduled in early October, the event is now set for Oct. 27, in connection with Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price’s FitWorth event, the Spooky Bike Ride.
“Our goal, much like Tour de Fresh, is to cultivate healthy habits at a young age,” Price said in a news release. “I’m proud of Fort Worth’s efforts to encourage cities across the U.S. to make health a priority. I’m passionate about increasing health and wellness because of its far-reaching implications, impacting everything from life expectancy, health care costs and worker productivity.”
Tour de Fresh Texas initially anticipated funding three of the salad bars, but that was raised to five salad bars, according to the release. The new venue and event allowed for more sponsorships, according to the release, and a check will be presented to Price following the ride.
