In honor of the local growers and harvesters in Yuma, Ariz., the Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association created a program named Labor of Love.
“Harvesting is a difficult profession and requires a commitment and unique set of skills. When we find the right workers, we want to make sure we take care of them, respect them and celebrate their invaluable contribution to the industry,” said the association’s president, Steve Alameda, in a news release.
During the Labor of Love program surprises will be given to workers, including a “breakfast on the farm,” random acts of kindness, a Facebook page to share worker stories, and the grand finale surprise will be held at the 2016 Harvest Dinner.
“Our people are at the core of what we do. They are highly skilled and honorable employees who are responsible for bringing premium products to consumers,” Caitlin Antle, sales and marketing director for Tanimura & Antle, said in the release. “They make what we do happen — bringing premium products to consumers every day of the year without skipping a beat.”
According to the release, the Labor of Love program will continue for the next 12 weeks, highlighting different farm workers each week.
