A healthy diet may improve your vision

The number of people who need vision correction is increasing every year, and some physicians maintain that a healthy, balanced diet is the first step to better vision.

“Without maintaining a balanced, healthy diet, therapies such as homeopathy, acupuncture and vision therapies won’t be effective,” adds Dr. Edward Kondrot, an ophthalmologist and board-certified homeopathic physician. “A nutritional foundation is paramount.”

Kondrot is a proponent of organic raw foods, saying, “Raw foods have more beneficial free amino acids than cooked foods.”

Kondrot feels you should incorporate these five essential foods into your diet:

  • Butternut Squash: Contains Vitamin A, which is needed by the retina in the form of light-absorbing retinal molecules and keeps eyes, skin and mucous membranes moist.
  • Zucchini: Contains lutein, used as an antioxidant and for blue-light absorption.
  • Brussels sprouts: Contain Vitamin C, an antioxidant that reduces the risk of cataract and macular degeneration.
  • Blueberries: Contain Vitamin C, which protects the body from free radicals that can damage the eyes and cause disease, as well as decrease the potential for developing glaucoma.
  • Kale: Contains protein, which can decrease the risk for eye diseases such as age-related Macular Degeneration.

“Colorful foods will give you clearer vision,” affirms Kondrot, founder of Healing the Eye & Wellness Center. “It’s vital to diversify your food with healthy fruits and vegetables, such as red peppers and carrots to keep your eyesight vibrant.”

Eating a healthy range of foods is so instrumental to eye health! I see many people, as a homeopath, that improve their health dramatically with just diet and exercise! Of course, the homeopathic remedy sets them on the road with the willpower to do it!
