"What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun."
That Biblical quote, Ecclesiastes 1:9, didn't take into account new product introductions. Sure, the retail fresh produce department still sells, apples, oranges, lettuce, tomatoes and bananas - just as it always has and just as it always will.
But give credit to produce marketers here and abroad for tweaking convenience, varieties and technology to keep things fresh, if not wholly different than what has come before.
I received a press release this morning about the nominees for the FRUIT LOGISTICA Innovation Award 2012. The release contained some interesting overviews of the products nominated for the award this year. FRUIT LOGISTICA will be held in Berlin from Feb. 8-10, and trade show visitors can vote on their choice for the award, according to the release. The award will be presented Feb. 10 by Messe Berlin GmbH and the Fruchthandel Magazine, Düsseldorf.
