The Florida Agri-Women has chosen Ann Holt of western Palm Beach County to receive the Founder’s Award for 2009.

The group will present the award at its Founder’s Dinner, Aug. 15, in Orlando.

A native of Florida, Holt has helped manage the family farm for 40 years and has been an advocate of the Florida sweet corn industry, according to a news release.

Since 1999, she has been a member of the Agriculture Committee of the South Florida Fair, where she promotes the sweet corn industry. She also educates people about the crop at the Produce Marketing Association, the Delray Affair and the Sweet Corn Fiesta.

In addition, she’s active in Ag Literacy Week, promoting Florida Agriculture in the Classroom.

Holt was the first woman ever elected to the board of directors of the West Palm Beach County Farm Bureau and to president.
