The U.S. Department of Agriculture has cited Forest Park, Ga.-based La Merced Produce LLC, for failing to pay for produce, according to a USDA news release.

The citation follows an August 2013 USDA administrative action against the company, which failed to pay $4,351,483 to 13 sellers for 391 lots of produce over four years. As a result of these Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act violations, La Merced Produce LLC is barred from the produce industry until June 16, 2016, when it will be eligible to reapply for a PACA license.

Additionally, the company’s principals, Alejandro Gonzalez and Hugo Gonzalez, may not be employed by or affiliated with any PACA licensee until June 16, 2015, and then only with the posting of a USDA-approved surety bond.
