The 3M Molecular Detection Assay 2 from 3M Food Safety has received a Gold Edison Award.
The Edison Awards, a program conducted by the nonprofit Edison Universe, have recognized and honored innovations and innovators since 1987, according to a news release.
The 3M Molecular Detection Assay 2 platform makes molecular detection of foodborne pathogens simpler and faster, according to the release. The food safety solution can give food manufacturers a speedy way to identify salmonella, listeria, E. coli O157 in food or environment-collected samples, according to the release. Comparative research shows that the 3M Molecular Detection Assay 2 can be 1.7 times faster than the closest competitive technology in detecting salmonella, according to the release.
“At 3M, we work to enhance food safety by offering transformational technology that protects the health of consumers while optimizing productivity, and protecting the brands of our customers,” Polly Foss, vice president and general manager for Minnesota-based 3M Food Safety, said in the release. “Therefore, we are especially proud to receive this honor as it showcases our commitment to innovative solutions that bring about safety and quality in our food supply.”
