Los Angeles-based 4Earth Farms is in expansion mode, said Mark Munger, vice president of sales and marketing.

The company has done some “really significant expansion” in organic acreage in Mexico and Guatemala.

The move takes the company into new regions and “creates more geographic diversity in supply to minimize supply interruptions because of weather or crop or pest issues,” he said.

The new acreage is complemented by an expansion of production facilities in Los Angeles.

“We are expanding our production space and our production capabilities by a little over 40%,” Munger said.

The project will include added space and an investment in packing machines and equipment to help productivity and capacity, he said.

Work started in spring, and the last machine should be installed in September.

Tied in with the Guatemala expansion are organic French beans, the company’s newest item, which was coming into production in mid-August and will be available year-round.
