Environment-friendly recyclable packaging used by A&A Organic Farms, Watsonville, Calif., is getting recognition.

The company recently received the Organic Innovations Showcase Award at the Organic Produce Summit in Monterey, Calif.

A&A Organic packs strawberries, cherry tomatoes, raspberries, blackberries and sugar snap peas in the packages, according to a news release. The cardboard packages are made with water-based coating, food-grade adhesives and vegetable-based inks, without wax and stickers or other added labels.

“We felt the need to have a more environmentally sound packaging option for our customers,” Andy Martin, president and co-founder said in the release. “The fact that our industry peers voted us as the most innovative shows we are correct in our thinking. The industry wants to make this shift and we are happy to be a part of that.”

The Santa Cruz County Small Business Development Center named A&A Organic business of the month recently for using the packaging.
