Sunny Crunch salad ( BrightFarms )

New York-based BrightFarms has debuted the Sunny Crunch packaged salad, featuring green leaf lettuce.

The salad has a mild flavor profile and aims to deliver the texture of iceberg and the flavor and color of a leafy green, according to a news release. BrightFarms designed the product to appeal to families with children.

“Iceberg lettuce is an American classic that continues to command a strong position in the salad category,” vice president of marketing Abby Prior said in the release. “Sunny Crunch adds a new level of flavor and excitement to a variety that many of us grew up with. We’re very excited to be introducing it to our retail partners as an exclusive offering.”

The new item began shipping in January, and all stores that carry BrightFarms product will have Sunny Crunch.

BrightFarms supplies hundreds of locations in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Illinois and Wisconsin from greenhouses in Rochelle, Ill., Culpepper County, Va., and Bucks County, Pa. Retail customers include Walmart, Giant and Roundy’s.

The company plans to launch more products this spring.

I love this lettuce as I’m sure others do. I usually find a few or just one package left at Giant. It’s leafy but has a nice crunch to it. I add it to my romaine with raw veggies for a delicious prelude to dinner.
