Santa Paula, Calif.-based Calavo Growers Inc. has planted tomatoes in Jalisco, Mexico, and they will be available starting April 1, said Brian Bernauer, director of operations and sales.

A second wave will start the last week of April.

About 85% will be round tomatoes, and 15% will be romas.

Unlike some other growing areas, Jalisco had good weather this winter and picked its winter deal until the end of January, Bernauer said.

The company sells tomatoes from additional locations year-round.
