Sure, Windsor Castle in England is a nice spot for a royal wedding, but the California Avocado Commission has a better idea.

The commission kicked off a social media campaign May 11, imploring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to consider ditching the castle for Markle’s home state of California for their May 19 wedding, in an over-the-top tongue-in-cheek video.

The video, whose narrator mimics the United Kingdom’s Robin Leach’s “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” gives the soon-to-be royal couple the hard sell.

“Imagine exchanging your vows amid our sprawling acreage. Grown only minutes from some of the most beautiful places on earth — the mountains! The beaches! California avocados are truly a taste of California!”

Wedding location amenities include

  • A beautiful Victorian homestead just steps away from a grove;
  • Exciting recreation (a basketball hoop nailed to a garage);
  • Spacious honeymoon suite (a treehouse); and
  • Reception facilities (a “rustic” barn).

The avocado commission developed the sharable social media content to promote the origin of California avocados in a humorous light. The commission invites consumers to follow California avocados on Facebook and Twitter to watch the campaign unfold.

The commission’s hashtag for the campaign is #RoyalWedding#CA_Avocados.

Clever ad pieces are always good for the industry. Budweiser, Jack-in-the Box and Geico Insurance all seem to support this marketing approach. The Mexican Avocado Association also promotes its fruit with clever ads, and buys Super Bowl air time to do so. Keep up the good work CAC.

I have an avacado tree and can’t get enough of them so buy more at the store year round.
