California Giant Berry Farms has a partnership with Oregon-based AC Foods and a new certification program that recognizes efforts to protect bees.

AC Foods and California Giant are now Bee Better Certified by the Xerces Society, according to a news release. The certification ensures farms provide native habitat for bees.

Xerces Society, which calls itself the world’s largest pollinator conservation group, focuses on improving biodiversity on farms and protecting conservation of habitats.

“Xerces Society has developed a standard to ensure protection from pesticides, abundance of flowering area throughout the growing season, a place for the bees to call home, and an ecosystem where the spread of disease is limited due to more native bees versus commercial bees,” Markus Duran, California Giant’s North American blueberry operations manager, said in the release. “Sustainable farming to its core depend on bee-friendly environments.”

California Giant suppliers Humbug Farm and Halls Ferry Farms are certified.

Consumers can find the Bee Better certification on Oregon-grown California Giant blueberries.
