Vegetable grower Uesugi Farms, which is facing court claims of non-payment for produce, has closed.

The Gilroy, Calif.-based grower said in an online post that “due to market conditions and factors outside of its control, Uesugi Farms has made the difficult decision to wind down its operations at the conclusion of the 2018 fall harvest season.”

The company is selling assets and working with customers, lenders and others to “obtain the best outcome possible for all its stakeholders,” according to the notice, which lists a number of e-mails to contact the company for questions regarding accounts payable and other issues.

San Antonio Horticola SA De CV, a Mexican grower, has filed a lawsuit against the company and its principals, claiming non-payment of more than $1.4 million for vegetables provided during the 2018 season.
